IIT-The Brand for Politics?
Lok Paritran-A word that was spread among the student community since its inception. Everyone in our college was proud. Something really happened as seen in the movies. Youngsters are in the politics. Even I was talking proud about their Party president who has sacrificed MNC’s and has dedicated his life for Indian Pubilc. I joined their orkut group, signed in their form in their website. Newspapers boasted, bloggers encouraged.
But isn’ t this getting cinematic? Even the photos look like cinema posters! No, I’m not discouraging them. I have just been following the recent election news and I don’t have any prior knowledge/interest about indian politics. It is really great decision for them to jump into politics. But are they really worth it? They should have done ground work. Public administration is different from clearing JEE. It requires grass-root level work as Kicha points out.
Though they have taken a good decision, they brand name of IIT has been used everywhere for publicising them. Or is it the only word-of-publicity? Badri has really good piece of advice for the young grads.
Sanskrit in Tamil Nadu??
It is next to impossible. In a state where language spirit is high, how would a villager in Ramanathapuram vote for a party whose name is greek and latin for him? It is better to give a convincing name for the Party or the literal transalation of the name is enough.
There has been different modes of campaining this time-Internet and Mobiles. But will it help the people who are going to vote in Ramanathapuram?
Elanthirumaran, you are taking on the DMK chief in Chepauk. He’s never lost an election there. How much of political experience do you have?
Elan: I once contested the Secretary elections at Larsen & Toubro when I was working there. But that’s the only experience I have. We feel we are about to learn and gain. This is our first step. You don’t need any experience to take a first step.
You don’t need any experience to take first step, but you definitely need some ground work and something to tell the public that you have done something for them, not necessarily free rice and computer. Politicians can’t be made overnight.
Keep contesting and convincing the public. Youngsters are impressed by your move, don’t lose them. They are your power. Channel them in proper way. Get online surveys, go to villages solve their immediate problems.
PS: It is easy for me to write about you sitting in my home. But I know that it is difficult for contesting and bearing the pressure in the state. But it is an amazing decision. You are our heroes. Live upto it.
