Earlier, i was using flickr quite frequently. Recently flickr
announced that if you are a free user, you could only view only 200 of
your latest photos, which is disappointing. I had to download all my
photos back to my hard-drive, which turned out to be irritating as
flickr doesn’t have any downloading tool.
Yesterday, I mailed Amit Agarwal asking for a
tool which could mass-download flickr images. If you didn’t know, amit is India’s top-tech blogger. His blogs are really interesting, not like the usual tech blogs which discuss some crap code that you dont understand. Amit suggested Downloadr which is for Windows. Since I had to download everything,
- First add all your images in a set
- Remove all images with permission private
- Download the flickr downloader script
- A few changes in the script will help you to list out all the
images from flickr.
- Use DownThemAll (downthemall.net), a firefox plugin to download all
the images. (Btw, DownThemAll is damn good download manager)
A few other Flickr downloaders
- http://greggman.com/pages/flickrdown.htm
- http://flickrslideshow.fateback.com/
- I got a page in which I gave my username and it returned a shell
script with all wgets of the images, forgot the link though.
Read this article by abhishek about why we should use Ubuntu rather than using Windows Vista. Though I haven’t used Ubuntu till now, the article seems really convincing.
I never knew there was a company in Chennai which gives out free Ubuntu CDs to people! Usually when we order Ubuntu CD’s, by the time it reaches another release comes out. Its good to have someone who gives out Ubuntu CD’s in your locality. Also, It has been a hell a lot of trouble to configure Dialup in Linux. I had to switch to windows everytime I have to access internet. But Ubuntu’s help pages are really robust. I have to try these HOWTOs when I go home. Besides, Taggy is spinning a custom Ubuntu for Glug-T with all extras(Media Player,IDEs,etc)
Few more interesting links:

Btw, Happy Tamil new year!
The talk was amazing, he managed to point out everything about his experiences about blogging. Infact, he was really outspoken that he even quoted the experiences about him posting about Trisha’s Video :). He explained everything in a more dramatic-way which spiced up the whole lecture. His idea of giving chocolates to the first 5 people to ask
questions is a nice idea!
Read his entry about his speech in Bizzdom here
Also, the person who invited Kiruba is also amazing. Satdal Payenk, is a final year MBA in our college, who blogs about Indian 2 wheelers here
PS: I’ll make sure this blog doesn’t die. I don’t kill blogs.
